At the West Australian Group Training Scheme Inc. (WAGTS) we employ the apprentices and or trainees and place them with suitable host employers, who are generally organisations and businesses responsible for providing a work environment favourable to learning the development of skills.
Our goal is to ensure that they successfully complete both the on-the-job and off-the-job training requirements relative to their qualification. This is done by providing mentoring and support for both the apprentices and host employers throughout the term of the training.
Overview of how The West Australian Group Training Scheme Works:
WAGTS employs apprentices and trainees under a training contract, then manages the quality of their training and provides pastoral care while they are placed with host employers. The West Australian Group Training Scheme Inc. recruits apprentices and trainees from school leavers, pre-vocational students and jobseekers. Applicants undergo assessment to ensure they have the commitment and aptitude to do the job they have applied for. Successful applicants are employed and registered as apprentices or trainees with the WAGTS. WAGTS then provides a personal support service through its Apprenticeship Field Officers.
WAGTS identifies the host employers who will take the apprentices or trainees into their business for employment and training purposes. Once placed, apprentices or trainees will report directly to the supervision and instruction of their host employer. The placement period is negotiated between all parties. In some cases, apprentices and trainees may stay with the host employer for the full period of their apprenticeship or traineeship. In others, they may be rotated to another host employer for further skills development.
The host employer receives an invoice each week, recovering some of the employment costs associated with the employment of apprentices or trainees.
WAGTS maintains the apprentices and trainees entitlements and records including:
•Pay award based wages
•Relivant Allowances
•Sick leave
•Annual leave and leave loading
•Public holidays
•Rostered days off
•Workers compensation
•Superannuation
•PAYG tax
•Issuing Group Certificates
•College Enrolment
The Host approves the apprentice's / trainee's annual leave in accordance with their requirements.
