METL sits in a unique position in the maritime sector.
Jointly established and funded by maritime employers and the MUA, we form a vital link between employers and the maritime workforce. We are funded by maritime employers, beneficiaries of maritime skills, international shipowners and maritime employees.
While we are a not-for-profit company, we do operate as a business. Our management team consists of experienced business people from a diverse range of industry backgrounds. To perform our role well, we value the contribution of employer and union representatives. Accordingly, our board is equally represented by both groups.
Our annual business plan is developed by our management team and endorsed by the board. Neutrality and transparency are critically important to METL. Our board maintains its independence from day-to-day operations, which are the responsibility of our management team.
Our overarching objective is to advance the productivity of the industry. We supply highly qualified seafarers to industry by providing effective skill development pathways for maritime employees.
