Pre-Apprenticeships

Certificate II in Building and Construction (Carpentry) Preapprenticeship

Pre-apprenticeship Description

The Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship - Carpentry aims to provide students with training similar to that of a first-year carpenter’s apprentice. You’ll be studying in a supportive small group environment, using the latest industry-standard equipment and with skilful and experienced practitioners as your teachers. A builder’s or carpenter’s apprentice could work in domestic, commercial and industrial settings. Employers look for apprentices and trainees who are work-ready, adaptable and efficient (as well as dependable and customer-friendly). Training elements and the advice you get throughout the course will emphasise the importance of understanding what clients want, how to work with an employer and contribute to a safe and efficient workplace. This pre-apprenticeship qualification is mostly about giving you exposure to the work, equipment and expectations you’ll face. This includes: building structures; scaffolding; plant and power tools; carpentry hand and power tools; wall and roof framing; cladding; window and door frames; interior fixing; demolition and concreting; workplace safety; documenting and calculations; communication skills and more. You’ll also gain valuable knowledge about the industry and career opportunities. Being a trained pre-apprentice will give you an advantage over non-trained applicants when applying for either apprentice or trainee positions.
