Certificate II in Building and Construction (Carpentry)

Pre-apprenticeship Description

The Certificate II in Building and Construction (Carpentry) is offered as a pre-apprenticeship to local students and is run at various times throughout the year. Melbourne Polytechnic will prepare you for a career in Carpentry. You will work on full-size projects in our building workshops, learning all the basic skills to be productive on-site. Once you’ve done this course, you can do one of our apprenticeship courses in carpentry. These courses lead to a career in carpentry, framework, formwork or finishing. Gain skills and knowledge in using hand and power tools, performing measurements and calculations, building structures,reading and interpreting plans, floor, wall, roof and window framing, external cladding, demolition, occupational health and safety, levelling and roofing.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should be (minimum) 16 years of age with a minimum Year 10 completion. If the student is under 18 years, they must have a completed release form from their school. Due to the high demand for this course, applicants may be advised of further intake requirements, and asked to attend an interview. Please contact Melbourne Polytechnic for course commencement dates and enrolment information. On successful completion of this course, participants will be granted 480 hours (12 weeks) credit in the Certificate III in General Construction (Carpentry/Framework/Formwork/Finishing) Apprenticeship. Graduates of this course may gain employment in the carpentry area of the building industry as a trainee in an Australian Apprenticeship.
