Technical Officer Power Systems Operations

Employees work as technical officers performing higher level managerial, design, testing and operational functions. Note – There are three areas in this qualification: design, testing, and/or system operation. This sample is for the Power Systems Operations specialisation.

Summary of Training

Core Units – all required

  • Use engineering applications software on personal computers
  • Compile and produce an energy sector detailed report
  • Establish and follow a competency development plan in an electrotechnology engineering discipline
  • Apply Occupational Health Safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
  • Fabricate, assemble and dismantle utilities industry components
  • Solve problems in d.c. circuits
  • Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications
  • Provide engineering solutions for problems in complex multiple path circuits problems
  • Provide solutions to basic engineering computational problems
  • Solve problems in electromagnetic devices and related circuits
  • Solve problems in low voltage a.c. circuits
  • Provide engineering solutions to problems in complex polyphase power circuits
  • Apply sustainable energy and environmental procedures
  • Working safely near live electrical apparatus
  • Implement and monitor the power systems organisational OHS policies, procedures and programs
  • Implement and monitor power systems environmental and sustainable energy management policies and procedures

  • Manage power systems network faults
  • Manage power systems critical events
  • Manage power systems transmission networks
  • Manage power systems transmission network demand
  • Develop crisis power systems management plans
  • Respond to complex power system protection operations  
  • Solve problems in energy supply network protection equipment and systems
  • Repair basic electronic apparatus faults by replacement of components
  • Build and sustain an innovative work environment
  • Manage budgets and financial plans
  • Manage quality customer service
  • Develop a workplace learning environment
