Supervisor/Leading Hand - Cotton Ginning

Employees are multi-skilled operators working as leading hands/supervisors or trainers in a cotton ginning factory. Work may include: use of and maintenance of ginning machinery, ginning presses; hydraulics and pneumatics; manual welding; knowledge of electrical principles and safety; supervision; training; information technology and; communication skills.

Summary of Training

Core Units (18 required)

  • Follow defined OHS policies and procedures
  • Apply quality standards
  • Work in the textiles, clothing and footwear industry
  • Perform tasks to support production
  • Organise and plan own work to achieve planned outcomes
  • Identify cotton characteristics
  • Gin cotton
  • Control bale or mote press operations
  • Identify factors that impact on cotton quality
  • Perform advanced operational maintenance of cotton ginning machines and equipment
  • Operate mobile load shifting equipment
  • Use hand tools
  • Use power tools/hand held operations
  • Perform emergency First Aid
  • Perform engineering measurements
  • Control production in a section of a textiles, clothing and footwear enterprise
  • Implement and monitor OHS in the workplace
  • Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices

  • Perform routine oxy acetylene welding
  • Perform in operational maintenance of machines/equipment
  • Assist in implementing a proactive maintenance strategy
