Working as a Signal Electrician you will be responsible for the installation, wiring, maintenance and repair of signalling assets for rail networks. You will perform assembly and dismantling of electrical and mechanical signalling equipment, and implement signal works and design changes safely. Note: Entry requirements apply.

Summary of Training

Core Units – 390 weighting points

Implement and monitor energy sector WHS policies and procedures
Participate in development and follow a personal competency development plan
Implement and monitor energy sector environmental and sustainable policies and procedures
Apply rail signalling principles
Assemble and wire electrical rail signalling equipment
Find and repair rail signalling system faults
Install and maintain rail track circuit leads and bonds
Maintain active level crossing equipment
Maintain power-operated point actuating devices
Maintain rail signalling power supplies
Maintain trackside signal and train protection equipment
Maintain train detection equipment
Test copper rail signalling cables

Elective Units – 140 weighting points

Maintain vital relay interlocking systems
Maintain mechanical rail signalling equipment and infrastructure
Maintain non-vital telemetry system
Repair rail signalling power and control cables
