Props Maker

Working as a Props Maker you will use a wide range of skills and experiment with different materials to create objects and scenery for film, television, stage productions, exhibitions and events. You will also repair props that are damaged during use. Note: Entry requirements apply.

Summary of Training

Core Units – 4 required

  • Collaborate in creative processes
  • Communicate effectively with arts professionals
  • Develop and implement own self-care plan in the creative industries
  • Contribute to organising productions

Elective Units – 12 required

  • Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • Coordinate props
  • Use casting and moulding techniques to make props
  • Make props using mixed media
  • Create special effects for scenic art
  • Make sets
  • Use carpentry tools and equipment
  • Use painting and decorating tools and equipment
  • Undertake a basic construction project
  • Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
  • Repair, maintain and alter props
  • Assemble and maintain sets
