Mechatronics Engineer

Working as a Mechatronics Engineer you will support the design and testing of mechanical and electronic systems, and the development of automated systems. You will participate in initiatives to improve manufacturing processes and assist in the assembly and testing of prototype products. Refer to industry requirements for recommended training pathways.

Elective Units – 23 required

  • Perform computations
  • Work safely and effectively in manufacturing and engineering
  • Perform basic statistical quality control
  • Participate in quality assurance techniques
  • Analyse a simple electrical system circuit
  • Select and test components for simple electronic switching and timing circuits
  • Prepare basic programs for programmable logic controllers         
  • Prepare mechatronic models for computer-aided engineering (CAE)
  • Perform mechatronics engineering design drafting
  • Use graphical techniques and perform simple statistical computations
  • Apply mechatronic engineering analysis techniques
  • Integrate mechatronic fundamentals into an engineering task
  • Conduct product and/or process capability studies
  • Perform advanced statistical quality control
  • Manage environmental effects of engineering activities
  • Source and estimate engineering materials requirements
  • Operate and program computers and/or controllers in engineering situations
  • Apply technical mathematics
  • Apply statistics and probability techniques to engineering tasks
  • Select and organise mechatronic engineering material tests
  • Apply engineering mechanics principles
  • Select electrical equipment and components for engineering applications
  • Investigate electrical and electronic controllers in engineering applications
