Jewellery Designer

Working as a Jewellery Designer you will create technical and rendered jewellery drawings according to customer specifications. You will establish and monitor timelines and completion of projects, and collaborate on new jewellery product lines. Refer to industry requirements for recommended training pathways.

Summary of Training

Core Units – 6 required

  • Work safely and effectively in manufacturing and engineering
  • Apply drawing and rendering techniques to jewellery or object design
  • Investigate quality and application of jewellery materials
  • Realise a body of creative work
  • Analyse cultural history and theory
  • Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices

Elective Units – 20 required

  • Use computer-aided design (CAD) to create and display 3D jewellery or object models
  • Create and present designs for jewellery and other 3D objects
  • Select materials and new technologies for jewellery and 3D object design applications
  • Produce renderings and technical drawings for jewellery and object design construction
  • Originate and develop concepts
  • Interpret and respond to a design brief
  • Establish, negotiate and refine a design brief
  • Present a body of own creative work
  • Interpret technical drawing
  • Perform brazing and/or silver soldering
  • Manually finish/polish materials
  • Undertake manual handling
  • Perform engineering measurements
  • Perform computations
  • Work safely with molten metals/glass
  • Work safely with industrial chemicals and materials
  • Use hand tools
  • Use specialised techniques to produce jewellery or objects
  • Organise and communicate information
  • Undertake project work
