Indigenous Liaison Officer

Working as an Indigenous Liaison Officer you will provide support and assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander hospital patients and their families/carers. You will work in collaboration to ensure provision of culturally appropriate health care within the hospital and post discharge, and represent issues for patients on committees and working parties. Note: Entry requirements apply.

Summary of Training

Core Units – 5 required

• Develop primary health care programs
• Promote awareness and prevention of chronic disease
• Provide support to clients affected by loss, grief or trauma
• Provide supervision for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health workers
• Maintain work health and safety

Elective Units – 10 required

• Implement and monitor infection prevention and control standards, policies and procedures              
• Provide support to clients experiencing alcohol and other drugs problems
• Provide health care for children
• Counsel clients affected by domestic and family violence
• Provide ear health care
• Manage medications in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander primary health care
• Provide sexual health care
• Provide services to people with coexisting mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues
• Contribute to the care of clients living with mental illness
• Facilitate access to tertiary health services
