Generation Service Technician

Working as a Generation Service Technician in the electricity supply industry, you will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of wind farm civil assets. You will review and monitor plant and equipment operations, accurately enter data and participate in shutdown and project planning.

Summary of Training

  • Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
  • Implement and monitor energy sector WHS policies and procedures
  • Analyse single protection device operation
  • Apply quality systems to work
  • Conduct single energy source isolation procedures for permit to work
  • Coordinate response to critical incidents
  • Coordinate team activities
  • Interpret and analyse multi-operation protection devices
  • Maintain quality systems within the team
  • Monitor and implement environmental site plans and procedures
  • Operate and monitor supervisory control and data acquisition systems
  • Plan and organise work
  • Respond to a critical incident

  • Conduct multiple energy source isolation procedures for permit to work
  • Coordinate permit to work system
  • Operate and monitor a.c. electrical systems
  • Operate and monitor d.c. electrical systems
  • Undertake local systems operations
  • Coordinate network/system
  • Develop H.V. switching programs
  • Plan a scheduled outage
  • Lead effective workplace relationships
  • Coordinate business operational plans
  • Develop personal work priorities
  • Promote innovation in team environments
  • Estimate electrotechnology projects
  • Apply environmental and sustainable energy procedures
  • Carry out operational checks on in-service electrical plant
  • Collect and analyse hydrological and meteorological data
  • Conduct non-routine operational testing
  • Conduct operational checks on in-service mechanical plant
  • Control electrical energy production
  • Coordinate wind farm operations
  • Ensure compliance with work health and safety policy and procedures
  • Facilitate the use of contingency plans for power generation facilities
  • Manage system restart
  • Monitor and maintain wind farm civil assets
  • Monitor climatic conditions for renewable energy production
  • Perform risk analysis of generation plant
  • Undertake operational commissioning and decommissioning
