Agricultural Mechanic

Working as an Agricultural Mechanic you would be responsible for the servicing and repair of farming equipment such as tractors and cultivation machines. You will use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot a range of mechanical and electrical systems including engine, transmission, steering and suspension systems.

  • Test, charge and replace batteries and jump-start vehicles
  • Diagnose and repair charging systems
  • Diagnose and repair starting systems
  • Diagnose and repair heavy vehicle compression ignition engines
  • Diagnose and repair heavy vehicle diesel fuel injection systems
  • Diagnose and repair mobile plant hydraulic systems
  • Diagnose and repair mobile plant braking systems
  • Diagnose and repair mobile plant steering systems
  • Diagnose and repair mobile plant final drive assemblies
  • Diagnose and repair powershift transmissions
  • Carry out servicing operations
  • Develop and carry out diagnostic test strategies
  • Inspect and service braking systems
  • Diagnose and repair cooling systems
  • Inspect and service engines
  • Inspect and service diesel fuel injection systems
  • Use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace

Elective Units – 15 required

  • Communicate effectively in an automotive workplace
  • Diagnose, repair and replace heavy vehicle electronic management, monitoring and tracking systems
  • Diagnose and repair network electronic control systems
  • Diagnose and repair compression ignition engine management systems
  • Diagnose and repair air conditioning and HVAC components
  • Remove, inspect and refit heavy vehicle wheel and tyre assemblies
  • Diagnose and repair heavy vehicle manual transmissions
  • Synchronise plant and equipment
  • Inspect and service hydraulic systems
  • Select and use bearings, seals, gaskets, sealants and adhesives
  • Inspect and service steering systems
  • Inspect and service suspension systems
  • Diagnose and repair hydrostatic transmissions
  • Diagnose and repair exhaust systems
  • Carry out manual metal arc welding on components
