Overhead Transmission Linesperson

Working as an Overhead Transmission Linesperson you will maintain electrical transmission infrastructure and networks. You will install, maintain and repair cables, towers and transformers and work on powerlines that convey electricity from generating plants to substations.

Summary of Training

  • Licence to perform dogging
  • Licence to perform rigging basic level
  • Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more)
  • Apply Occupational Health and Safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
  • Fabricate, assemble and dismantle utilities industry components
  • Solve problems in d.c. circuits
  • Fix and secure electrotechnology equipment
  • Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications
  • Solve problems in electromagnetic devices and related circuits
  • Solve problems in low voltage a.c. circuits
  • Apply sustainable energy and environmental procedures
  • Operate plant and equipment near live electrical conductors and apparatus
  • Working safely near live electrical apparatus
  • Install and maintain poles, structures and overhead conductors and cables
  • Install transmission structures and associated hardware
  • Maintain transmission structures and associated hardware
  • Install and maintain transmission overhead conductors and cables
  • Inspect transmission overhead structures and electrical apparatus
  • Test and verify transmission overhead installations
  • Licence to operate a personnel and materials hoist
  • Licence to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding basic level
  • Licence to drive a heavy rigid vehicle
  • Inspect overhead poles-structures and electrical apparatus
  • Maintain overhead energised low voltage conductors and cables
  • Install network infrastructure electrical equipment
