Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Senior Technologist

Working as an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Senior Technologist you will plan, design and develop climate control and refrigeration systems for industrial and commercial premises. You will provide technical support and advice to clients such as manufacturers, contractors and architects.

Summary of Training

  • Apply industry and community standards to engineering activities
  • Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
  • Compile and produce an energy sector detailed report
  • Document and apply measures to control WHS risks associated with electrotechnology work
  • Establish and follow a competency development plan in an electrotechnology engineering discipline
  • Fabricate, assemble and dismantle utilities industry components
  • Identify effects of energy on machinery and materials in an energy sector environment
  • Provide solutions to basic engineering computational problems
  • Solve electrotechnical engineering problems
  • Use advanced computational processes to provide solutions to energy sector engineering problems
  • Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications
  • Use engineering applications software on personal computers
  • Analyse the operation of HVAC air and hydronic systems
  • Analyse the psychrometric performance of HVAC/R systems
  • Analyse the thermodynamic performance of HVAC/R systems
  • Analyse vibration and noise in refrigeration and air conditioning systems
  • Establish heat loads for commercial refrigeration and/or air conditioning applications
  • Establish the thermodynamic parameters of refrigeration and air conditioning systems
  • Evaluate thermodynamic and fluid parameters of refrigeration systems
  • Plan refrigeration and air conditioning projects
  • Produce HVAC/R system design drawings
  • Develop strategies to address environmental and sustainability issues in the energy sector
  • Deliver a service to customers
  • Provide basic instruction in the use of electrotechnology apparatus
  • Maintain documentation
  • Provide quotations for installation or service jobs
  • Source and purchase material/parts for installation or service jobs
  • Estimate electrotechnology projects
  • Select basic commercial refrigeration system equipment, components and accessories
  • Implement and monitor energy sector environmental and sustainable policies and procedures
  • Prepare tender submissions for electrotechnology projects         
  • Evaluate and report on building services energy management systems
  • Manage contract variations
  • Design complex commercial refrigeration systems and select equipment
  • Design complex control systems for refrigeration or heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems
  • Design complex industrial refrigeration systems and select equipment
  • Design hydronic systems and select equipment
  • Develop heat exchanger design specifications
  • Develop specifications and prepare drawings for HVAC/R projects
  • Evaluate new and alternative technologies applicable to electrotechnology applications
