Renewable Engineering Technologist

Working as a Renewable Engineering Technologist you will design electrical systems for renewable energy projects and provide technical support. You will prepare engineering design documentation, test and commission, and organise and direct resources on site project roll outs.

  • Solve problems in multiple path circuits
  • Solve problems in single path circuits
  • Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications
  • Write specifications for renewable energy engineering projects
  • Use engineering applications software on personal computers
  • Solve problems in direct current (d.c.) machines
  • Solve problems in low voltage a.c. circuits
  • Solve problems in magnetic and electromagnetic devices
  • Provide engineering solutions to problems in complex polyphase power circuits
  • Apply electrical principles to renewable energy design
  • Conduct site survey for grid-connected photovoltaic and battery storage systems
  • Conduct site survey for off-grid photovoltaic/generating set systems
  • Develop engineering solutions to renewable energy (RE) problems
  • Maintain renewable energy (RE) apparatus
  • Manage renewable energy (RE) projects
  • Plan renewable energy (RE) projects
  • Assess household energy use and efficiency improvements
  • Develop, enter and verify discrete control programs for programmable controllers            
  • Develop, enter and verify word and analogue control programs for programmable logic controllers
  • Assess energy loads and uses for energy efficiency in industrial properties and enterprises
  • Coordinate the design of micro-grid renewable energy systems
  • Design energy management controls for electrical installations in buildings
  • Design micro-hydro systems
  • Design off-grid photovoltaic/generating set systems
  • Design renewable energy heating systems
  • Design wind energy systems
  • Develop effective engineering strategies for energy reduction in buildings             
  • Implement information and knowledge management systems
  • Establish innovative work environments
  • Facilitate continuous improvement
  • Manage team effectiveness       
  • Prepare engineering drawings using manual drafting and CAD for electrotechnology applications
  • Supervise and coordinate energy sector work activities
  • Estimate electrotechnology projects
  • Prepare specifications for the supply of materials and equipment for electrotechnology projects
  • Provide quotations for installation or service jobs
  • Source and purchase material/parts for installation or service jobs
