Composites Technician Apprentice – Level IV

A Composites Technician Apprentice Level IV has experience in making moulds and producing and repairing products from a range of materials. They will be able to apply specialised technical knowledge and have an understanding of the production process and equipment.

  • Apply quality standards
  • Work safely and effectively in manufacturing and engineering
  • Organise and communicate information
  • Prepare basic engineering drawing          
  • Test thermoset composite laminates and materials
  • Mould composites with chemically-resistant or fire-retardant properties
  • Diagnose production equipment problems
  • Develop fibre-composite products using cored-laminate techniques                        
  • Perform engineering measurements
  • Perform computations
  • Prepare moulds for composites production
  • Create composite laminates using hand lay-up techniques
  • Mould composites products using hand lay-up techniques
  • Construct moulds for composite products
  • Produce composites using vacuum bagging
  • Mould composites with chemically-resistant or fire-retardant properties
  • Repair damaged fibre-composites structures
  • Produce composite products using cored-laminate techniques    
  • Operate multi-axis router
  • Interpret technical drawing
  • Provide coaching/mentoring in the workplace
  • Finish components and products
  • Rework product imperfections
  • Operate hand-held air or power equipment for production processes      
  • Apply gel coat or other polymer surface finish
  • Operate a chopper gun to lay-up composites
  • Finish composite products
  • Produce composites using resin transfer moulding
