Indigenous Education Assistant

Working as an Indigenous Education Assistant you will work with children of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage and support in building their self-esteem. You will provide teacher assistance, organisation and resource preparation and liaise with parents and local community.

Summary of Training

  • Work with diverse people
  • Meet legal and ethical obligations in an education support environment
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of educational programs
  • Contribute to student education in all developmental domains
  • Support the development of literacy and oral language skills
  • Support the development of numeracy skills
  • Support students with additional needs in the classroom
  • Contribute to the health, safety and wellbeing of students
  • Work effectively with students and colleagues
  • Support responsible student behaviour
  • Communicate with students, parents and colleagues in an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander language
  • Work effectively as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander education worker
  • Set up and sustain learning areas             
  • Support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander education           
  • Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
