Working as an Automotive Manufacturing Technician in the bus, truck and trailer industry you will prepare, install and fit components used in the assembly of these vehicles.

Summary of Training

  • Prepare and operate tools, equipment and machinery
  • Monitor and maintain automotive equipment
  • Apply heavy vehicle standards
  • Apply workplace technical quality standards
  • Read and interpret work orders and working drawings
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and determine requirements
  • Perform basic welding, thermal cutting, heating and gouging
  • Conduct mechanical cutting
  • Communicate effectively in an automotive workplace
  • Work effectively with others in an automotive workplace
  • Follow safe working practices in an automotive workplace
  • Service vehicle after assembly
  • Assemble, install and test braking system kits
  • Install fixed and moveable glass components on vehicles
  • Assemble vehicle components
  • Assemble vehicle frames and axles
  • Install and replace mechanical units and assemblies
  • Install and fit out components
  • Assemble, install and test hydraulic system kits
  • Assemble, install and test pneumatic system kits
  • Install and replace vehicle electrical units and assemblies
  • Manufacture and modify vehicle wiring harnesses
  • Prepare materials for fabrication using jigs and fixtures
  • Prepare materials for fabrication using manual processes
  • Fabricate plugs
  • Fabricate parts for vehicle sub-assemblies
  • Perform wheel alignment operations
  • Install vehicle components
