Australian Apprenticeships Summary Statistics - Year to September 2021

This document provides a summary of the National Apprentice and Trainee Collection statistics for each State and Territory. It also includes data about qualification approvals, and commencements split by Apprenticeship and Traineeship classification. This data has been sourced from the National Centre for Vocational Education and Research (NCVER) along with AATIS’ own data collections.

AATIS Research

The AATIS Research Team undertake projects that inform our work as an information service. This includes projects into information provision methods, such as understanding how parents and young people access careers information. In turn, this research influences the ways that AATIS provides information. Other projects focus on Australian Apprenticeships and information needs in this industry, informing the content we present.

AATIS Stakeholder Survey

Throughout 2021 and early 2022, AATIS sought feedback from industry stakeholders about use of the Service. This feedback will help inform our work, including future projects and resource development, and enhancements and updates to existing resources.

We extended an invite to anyone from across the Australian Apprenticeships and careers industry to complete the survey. All responses are confidential.

The Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships Information Service (AATIS) is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment. AATIS is a neutral and trusted source of information and resources in the Australian Apprenticeships industry.

Our work assists organisations in the Australian Apprenticeships, school and careers, employment services, and wider VET industries. AATIS works closely with industry stakeholders to ensure that their respective information and resource requirements are met.

This preliminary report provides a high-level overview of feedback from the 2021-22 AATIS Stakeholder Survey. The detailed final report will be released by June 2022.

Current Projects

Employer Information Needs - Preliminary Report

This research project examines the question: What information do employers need before taking on an Australian Apprentice? Preliminary results from the project are presented in this report.

Parents understanding of VET

This research project is examining the level of understanding that parents have of the future of work and how it relates to the VET sector. The survey is now open to all parents.

Apprentice Readiness Quiz

We are developing a tool to help potential apprentices and trainees understand how ready they are to commence. This quiz, along with background information, will be released in mid 2022.

Career Interest Explorer Review

An update of the Career Interest and Work Type Explorers was based on research undertaken with career researchers. The update of these resources was completed in 2021.

Engaging with Australian Apprenticeships Information

This report, published in late 2018, examines the ways in which young people prefer engaging with careers information. It outlines several recommendations for high quality information provision.
