Agriculture and Horticulture are broad groupings of industries including farming animals and plants, managing and maintaining ‘the grown environment’ in regional and urban areas, landcare, landscaping and also the retail nursery sector.

The Conservation and Land Management sector covers nature reserves and conservation parks, including national parks, state parks and other parks, and land care.

Horticulture employers operate in gardening and landscape businesses, nursery production, turf growing and floriculture, parks and gardens operations, and the environmental sector.

There are 22,000 people working in Parks and Gardens Operations. This category includes those working in nature reserves and conservation parks.

Traineeship and apprenticeship commencements are good in Agriculture and Horticulture sectors but low in the Conservation and Land Management sector due to the small size of the workforce and the large ‘army’ of volunteers who work in the sector.
