These qualifications cover aquaculture, fisheries compliance and environmental management, fishing operations, seafood processing and seafood sales and distribution areas of work.

‘Agriculture, Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management’, ‘Retail Services’ and ‘Maritime’ are associated industries.

Qualifications Summary

SFI20111 - Certificate II in Aquaculture

This qualification represents the base entry point into this sector of the seafood industry and provides a range of core and underpinning skills and knowledge relevant to work as a field hand in the aquaculture sector.

SFI20211 - Certificate II in Fishing Operations

This qualification provides the main entry point for individuals working in the fishing sector. It is applicable for people working: for aquaculture farms using wild caught broodstock or seedstock and on fishing vessels.

SFI20411 - Certificate II in Fisheries Compliance Support

This qualification is for people working at a local level in a support role to an agency or organisation that has legislated responsibility for the management of fisheries, both wild catch and aquaculture.

SFI20511 - Certificate II in Seafood Processing

This qualification is the entry level point for people working in the seafood processing sector.

SFI20611 - Certificate II in Seafood Industry (Sales and Distribution)

This qualification is the entry point into seafood sales and distribution sector and provides people with a range of core competencies relevant to retail and wholesale work.

SFI30111 - Certificate III in Aquaculture

Appropriate training for those working in the aquaculture sector in the capacity of a skilled worker or leading hand. For example in: in hatcheries and nurseries; in live post-harvest holding facilities, such as processing plants, wholesalers or transporters; in pet shops, public aquaria, zoos or other facilities with aquatic animals; on aquaculture farms or fishout/put-and-take operations.

SFI30211 - Certificate III in Fishing Operations

This qualification provides competencies to become an experienced deckhand undertaking a wide range of fishing operation tasks. Note - Maritime certifications, such as a Coxswain, cannot be achieved through this qualification. Refer to the Maritime Training Package.

SFI30311 - Certificate III in Seafood Industry (Environmental Management Support)

This qualification represents the competencies relevant to persons in the seafood industry whose work involves implementing and monitoring an environmental management system (EMS).

SFI30411 - Certificate III in Fisheries Compliance

Suitable for those engaged in promoting compliance with fisheries legislation for recreational and commercial fishers, and the general public.

SFI30511 - Certificate III in Seafood Processing

Appropriate for people working in the seafood processing sector for: contract harvesting and on-farm processing companies; wholesalers or retailers; processing plants; and aquaculture farms or fishout/put-and-take operations.

SFI30611 - Certificate III in Seafood Industry (Sales and Distribution)

This qualification is designed for more experienced employees whose work requires extensive product knowledge and some responsibility for decision-making and coordination of team activities.

SFI40111 - Certificate IV in Aquaculture

Suitable for aquaculturists in a supervisory or leadership capacity. A person operating at this level may be expected to comply with legislative requirements as well as implement a range of enterprise policies and procedures. They will also use their knowledge and skills to solve problems, plan for future work activities and take responsibility for others.

SFI40211 - Certificate IV in Fishing Operations

This qualification specifies the competencies required to oversee fishing operations for: aquaculture farms using wild caught broodstock or seedstock; on charter vessels; and on fishing vessels.

SFI40311 - Certificate IV in Seafood Industry (Environmental Management)

This qualification provides training in specialist environmental management system (EMS) roles within an organisation or in facilitator roles working with a team in the development of an EMS.

SFI40411 - Certificate IV in Fisheries Compliance

Appropriate training for experienced fisheries compliance officers. It includes skill sets for fraud investigation, surveillance and observer operations.

SFI40511 - Certificate IV in Seafood Processing

This is an appropriate qualification for people working in the seafood processing sector of the seafood industry in the capacity of a supervisor, shift manager or process manager.

SFI40611 - Certificate IV in Seafood Industry Sales and Distribution

Relevant to people working within the retail and/or wholesale sector of the seafood industry in a supervisory or leadership capacity.

SFI50111 - Diploma of Aquaculture

Relevant to people working in the aquaculture sector at a management level.

SFI50211 - Diploma of Fishing Operations

This qualification prepares skippers to manage fishing operations, including aspects of personnel and business management and will have application for people working for fishing companies.

SFI50411 - Diploma of Fisheries Compliance

Relevant to individuals who manage the fisheries management and compliance functions.

SFI50511 - Diploma of Seafood Processing

Relevant to people working in the seafood processing sector in the capacity of an owner manager or operations manager.
