Qualifications Summary

SFI20111 - Certificate II in Aquaculture

This qualification represents the base entry point into this sector of the seafood industry and provides a range of core and underpinning skills and knowledge relevant to work as a field hand in the aquaculture sector.

SFI20119 - Certificate II in Aquaculture

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as aquaculture attendants to support the care of aquatic stock in the aquaculture sector of the seafood industry. In this role, these individuals undertake a range of routine tasks such as handling, feeding and monitoring stock, and monitoring environmental conditions under the direction of a supervisor.

SFI20211 - Certificate II in Fishing Operations

This qualification provides the main entry point for individuals working in the fishing sector. It is applicable for people working: for aquaculture farms using wild caught broodstock or seedstock and on fishing vessels.

SFI20219 - Certificate II in Fishing Operations

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who support fishing operations in the fishing sector of the seafood industry. In this role, these individuals undertake a range of routine tasks such as using fishing equipment to land catch, maintaining the temperature of seafood catch, assembling and repairing netting and undertaking deckhand duties aboard a vessel under the direction of a supervisor.

SFI20319 - Certificate II in Seafood Post Harvest Operations

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work in the seafood processing or sales and distribution sectors of the seafood industry. In this role, these individuals undertake routine tasks such as fish preparation, packaging, storage, retail and distribution under the direction of a supervisor.

SFI20411 - Certificate II in Fisheries Compliance Support

This qualification is for people working at a local level in a support role to an agency or organisation that has legislated responsibility for the management of fisheries, both wild catch and aquaculture.

SFI20419 - Certificate II in Fisheries Compliance Support

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as fisheries officers, sea rangers or observers in a support role for an agency or organisation that has legislated responsibility for the management of fisheries, both wild catch and aquaculture. In this role, these individuals conduct field operations to ensure protection of resources and report on suspected non-compliance using only observable evidence that can be recorded.

SFI20511 - Certificate II in Seafood Processing

This qualification is the entry level point for people working in the seafood processing sector.

SFI20611 - Certificate II in Seafood Industry (Sales and Distribution)

This qualification is the entry point into seafood sales and distribution sector and provides people with a range of core competencies relevant to retail and wholesale work.

SFI30111 - Certificate III in Aquaculture

Appropriate training for those working in the aquaculture sector in the capacity of a skilled worker or leading hand. For example: in hatcheries and nurseries; in live post-harvest holding facilities, such as processing plants, wholesalers or transporters; in pet shops, public aquaria, zoos or other facilities with aquatic animals; on aquaculture farms or fishout/put-and-take operations.

SFI30119 - Certificate III in Aquaculture

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as aquaculture attendants or technicians for the care of aquatic stock in the aquaculture sector of the seafood industry. In this role, these individuals have responsibilities for the handling of stock, and maintaining water quality and monitoring environmental conditions. They may perform dives or vessel operations as part of their role.

SFI30211 - Certificate III in Fishing Operations

This qualification provides competencies to become an experienced deckhand undertaking a wide range of fishing operation tasks. Note - Maritime certifications, such as a Coxswain, cannot be achieved through this qualification. Refer to the Maritime Training Package.

SFI30219 - Certificate III in Fishing Operations

This qualification reflects the roles of individuals who work as senior deckhands or occupational divers on a commercial fishing vessel in the fishing sector of the seafood industry. In these roles, these individuals have responsibility for a range of fishing operations and may perform dives or vessel operations.

SFI30319 - Certificate III in Seafood Post Harvest Operations

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as leading process or sales workers in the seafood processing, sales and distribution sectors of the seafood industry. In this role, these individuals have responsibilities in seafood preparation, packaging and storage. This may include retail and wholesale activities.

SFI30411 - Certificate III in Fisheries Compliance

Suitable for those engaged in promoting compliance with fisheries legislation for recreational and commercial fishers, and the general public.

SFI30419 - Certificate III in Fisheries Compliance

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work in a regulatory role for an agency or organisation that has legislated responsibility for fisheries management. In this role, these individuals promote and monitor compliance with fisheries legislation for recreational, commercial and traditional fishers, and the general public.

SFI30511 - Certificate III in Seafood Processing

Appropriate for people working in the seafood processing sector for: contract harvesting and on-farm processing companies; wholesalers or retailers; processing plants; and aquaculture farms or fishout/put-and-take operations.

SFI30611 - Certificate III in Seafood Industry (Sales and Distribution)

This qualification is designed for more experienced employees whose work requires extensive product knowledge and some responsibility for decision-making and coordination of team activities.

SFI40111 - Certificate IV in Aquaculture

Suitable for aquaculturists in a supervisory or leadership capacity. A person operating at this level may be expected to comply with legislative requirements as well as implement a range of enterprise policies and procedures. They will also use their knowledge and skills to solve problems, plan for future work activities and take responsibility for others.

SFI40119 - Certificate IV in Aquaculture

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work in the aquaculture sector of the seafood industry at the supervisory or managerial level. In this role, these individuals are responsible for ensuring aquaculture business processes comply with legislative and workplace requirements. They also use their knowledge and skills to solve problems, plan for future work activities and take responsibility for others.

SFI40219 - Certificate IV in Seafood Post Harvest Operations

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work in the seafood processing and sales and distribution sectors of the seafood industry at the supervisory or managerial level. In this role, these individuals are responsible for evaluating the quality of seafood to be processed or sold, and ensuring processing practices and systems meet quality and legislative requirements.

SFI40319 - Certificate IV in Fisheries Compliance

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work in a senior or supervising regulatory role for an agency or organisation that has legislated responsibility for fisheries management. In this role, these individuals have responsibility for ensuring that compliance monitoring and administrative procedures comply with legislative and jurisdictional requirements. They plan and promote fisheries management awareness programs for commercial, recreational and traditional fishers and undertake surveillance and report as part of their role.

SFI40411 - Certificate IV in Fisheries Compliance

Appropriate training for experienced fisheries compliance officers. It includes skill sets for fraud investigation, surveillance and observer operations.

SFI40511 - Certificate IV in Seafood Processing

This is an appropriate qualification for people working in the seafood processing sector of the seafood industry in the capacity of a supervisor, shift manager or process manager.

SFI40611 - Certificate IV in Seafood Industry Sales and Distribution

Relevant to people working within the retail and/or wholesale sector of the seafood industry in a supervisory or leadership capacity.

SFI50111 - Diploma of Aquaculture

Relevant to people working in the aquaculture sector at a management level.

SFI50119 - Diploma of Aquaculture

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work in the aquaculture sector of the seafood industry at a management or leadership level. In this role, these individuals design, plan and implement programs and sustainable practices for an aquaculture enterprise that comply with a wide range of legislative and regulatory requirements.

SFI50219 - Diploma of Fisheries Compliance

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work at the leadership level for an agency or organisation that has legislated responsibility for fisheries management. In this role, they manage fisheries compliance functions, conduct workplace audits as well as contribute to fisheries management policy development at the broader industry and community level. They may have responsibilities in supporting and leading staff and managing staff performance.

SFI50411 - Diploma of Fisheries Compliance

Relevant to individuals who manage the fisheries management and compliance functions.
