Qualifications Summary

RGR20108 - Certificate II in Racing (Stablehand)

This qualification reflects the role of harness or racehorse stablehands who work under supervision and in known routines but with a defined amount of responsibility and limited judgement.

RGR20117 - Certificate II in Racing (Greyhound)

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are beginning their careers in the greyhound industry and/or work in one specific area. These individuals undertake a broad range of tasks related to the care and welfare of greyhounds. They work under direction on most occasions but are also able to act autonomously in certain situations that require solutions to a limited range of problems or working as part of a team

RGR20208 - Certificate II in Racing (Kennelhand)

This qualification reflects the role of greyhound racing kennelhands who care for the animals and meet their individual needs of feeding, grooming, exercising, transporting and keeping the environment safe, clean and hygienic.

RGR20213 - Certificate II in Racing (Greyhound)

Suitable training for attendants in greyhound racing kennels whose main functions are to care for the animals and to meet their individual needs of feeding, grooming, exercising, transporting and keeping the environment safe, clean and hygienic.

RGR20218 - Certificate II in Racing Industry

This qualification reflects the role of new entrants to the racing industry. It provides an introduction to the racing industry and allows for specialisation in sectors or roles, including stablehand (harness or thoroughbred), stud hand (breeding), track maintenance and racing administration.

RGR20308 - Certificate II in Racing Services (Racing Administration)

This qualification reflects the role of employees who work in racing administration roles under the direction of a supervisor. While they may not be required to handle horses or greyhounds, employees are often required to work near race animals.

RGR20408 - Certificate II in Racing Services (Track Maintenance)

This qualification covers the maintenance and repair of racing tracks, gardens and other facilities as well as the use of tools and machinery.

RGR30108 - Certificate III in Racing (Trackrider)

This qualification covers the role of self-employed or employed trackriders who work independently with limited supervision.

RGR30208 - Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stablehand)

A suitable qualification for an advanced stablehand (or stable foreman) in charge of daily operations in a harness or thoroughbred racing stable. In a harness racing stable the stablehand cares for standardbred horses. They work under the instructions of a trainer.

RGR30218 - Certificate III in Racing (Stablehand)

This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as a stablehand in charge of daily operations in a harness or thoroughbred racing stable where they care for racehorses.

RGR30308 - Certificate III in Racing Services (Racing Administration)

This qualification reflects work responsibilities covering general office administration conducted under racing-specific protocols and procedures. While they may not be required to handle horses or greyhounds, employees are often required to work close to race animals.

RGR30408 - Certificate III in Racing Services (Cadet Steward)

Employees with this qualification need to be confident about moving in close proximity to racing horses or greyhounds and to be able to identify safe and unsafe methods of handling by others, as well as recognising approved and non-approved racing gear and equipment and legal and illegal racing tactics.
They will acquire knowledge of the rules of racing, racing protocols, animal welfare and duty of care.

RGR30418 - Certificate III in Racing Services

This qualification reflects the broad work responsibilities undertaken within regulatory and integrity services operations within the greyhound, harness or thoroughbred racing codes. The general qualification covers skills required for a range of racing services and operations. Two specialisations can be selected. The Cadet Steward specialisation covers duties required to assist stewards in race and non-race day activities and the Racing Administration specialisation covers general office administration conducted under racing-specific protocols and procedures.

RGR30508 - Certificate III in Racing Services (Track Maintenance)

This qualification covers the maintenance and repair of racing tracks, gardens and other facilities as well as the use of tools and machinery. Employees will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of the impact of track and environmental conditions on racing animal welfare.

RGR30518 - Certificate III in Racing (Trackwork Rider)

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are independently engaged or employed as trackriders to exercise thoroughbred horses on the instruction of a trainer in the racing industry.

RGR40108 - Certificate IV in Racing (Racehorse Trainer)

Suitable for racehorse trainers who are licensed to operate a business that trains horses under racing industry regulated licensing criteria for the purpose of competing in industry-regulated events. Training covers responsible care, maintenance and racing performance of the animals.

RGR40118 - Certificate IV in Racing (Racehorse Trainer)

This qualification reflects the role of individuals licensed to operate a business that trains horses under racing industry regulated licensing criteria for the purpose of competing in industry-regulated events in the harness or thoroughbred racing codes.

RGR40208 - Certificate IV in Racing (Jockey)

This qualification reflects the role of independently employed persons who are responsible for organising their own work. A jockey is an independent professional sportsperson licensed by the industry authorities to compete in industry-regulated competition. The jockey contracts riding services on a daily basis to owners and trainers.

RGR40218 - Certificate IV in Racing (Jockey)

This qualification reflects the role of individuals licensed to operate as a jockey and compete in industry-regulated events in the thoroughbred racing code. Jockeys are independent professional athletes who ride racehorses at race meetings, barrier trials and trackwork. Most are independent contractors offering their riding services to compete in racing industry regulated race meetings, with some retained by racing stables. A jockey possesses the highest level of race riding skills, requiring a high degree of decision-making skill and reaction time during races, and the ability to exercise judgement when choosing mounts and assessing horse form.

RGR40308 - Certificate IV in Racing (Harness Race Driver)

This qualification reflects the role of independently employed persons who are responsible for organising their own work and the outputs generated and are able to identify, analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. The Harness Driver is an independent professional sportsperson licensed by the industry authorities to compete in industry-regulated competition.

RGR40318 - Certificate IV in Racing (Harness Race Driver)

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are harness race drivers. They are independent professional sportspersons licensed by harness racing industry authorities to compete in industry-regulated competition.

RGR40408 - Certificate IV in Racing (Greyhound Trainer)

A Greyhound Trainer is a person who operates a greyhound training business and is registered as a public trainer to train greyhounds for owners and syndicates. The trainer is responsible for the care, maintenance and racing performance of the greyhounds.

RGR40418 - Certificate IV in Racing (Greyhound Trainer)

This qualification reflects the role of individuals licensed to operate a business that trains greyhounds under racing industry regulated licensing criteria for the purpose of competing in industry-regulated events in the greyhound racing code.It covers the care, maintenance and performance of greyhounds and the tasks and duties associated with running a racing establishment, including managing staff, finances and equipment. Trainers are responsible for planning and organising their own work, leading others and carrying out often complex and non-routine tasks.

RGR40508 - Certificate IV in Racing Services (Racing Administration)

Appropriate for those working in the administration, event management and operations areas of racing.

RGR40518 - Certificate IV in Racing Integrity

This qualification reflects the work undertaken by individuals in compliance and integrity service operations in the greyhound, harness and thoroughbred racing codes. It covers the specialist roles of stewards and integrity officials with responsibilities for investigations, compliance and intelligence who require an extensive knowledge of the rules of racing, administrative law, racing protocols, animal welfare, safety and duty of care requirements.

RGR40608 - Certificate IV in Racing Services (Steward)

Covers training and work that is undertaken within the regulatory and integrity services operations in racing. In addition, stewards supervise the conduct of race meetings, and investigate incidents and potential non-compliance issues, as well as arbitrating and imposing penalties under the principles of administrative law.

RGR40708 - Certificate IV in Racing Services (Track Maintenance)

This qualification covers the maintenance and repair of racing tracks, gardens and other facilities as well as the use of tools and machinery. It may also cover the planning of work rosters, supervision of race meeting staff and management of contract capital works or improvements. Employees will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of the impact of track and environmental conditions on racing animal welfare.

RGR50118 - Diploma of Racing (Racehorse Trainer)

This qualification reflects the role of individuals licensed to operate a business that trains horses commercially for multiple owners to compete in industry-regulated events in the harness or thoroughbred racing codes. The trainer at this level generally manages a large training establishment with several staff members, often operating interstate and/or internationally, with extensive demands from owners, media and public.

RGR50218 - Diploma of Racing Integrity Management

This qualification reflects the work undertaken by individuals in regulatory and integrity service operations in the greyhound, harness and thoroughbred racing codes. It covers the role of stewards, specialist investigators and other integrity officials who require an extensive knowledge of the rules of racing, administrative law, racing protocols, animal welfare, safety and duty of care requirements.
