These qualifications apply to metal fabrication, industrial electrician, jewellery making, watch and clock repair and service, locksmithing, mechanical engineering, production systems, engineering drafting, recreational boating manufacture and repair and mechatronics, aeronautical and avionic engineering areas of work.

‘Automotive Manufacturing’, Manufacturing’ and ‘Sustainability’ are associated industries.

Qualifications Summary

MEM20105 - Certificate II in Engineering

This qualification provides entry level training in a broad range of manufacturing, metal and engineering enterprises. Core training includes OHS, planning for routine tasks, application of quality systems and quality procedures and working with others in a manufacturing, engineering or related environment.

MEM20205 - Certificate II in Engineering - Production Technology

This qualification is typically associated with positions such as operators, warehouse personnel and machine setters. This qualification is not suited and should not be used for people who are not employed in an engineering production or manufacturing environment.

MEM20305 - Certificate II in Boating Services

This qualification represents a broad entry-level point for this sector. Core training includes performing engineering measurements, OHS, application of quality procedures, communication and working with others as well as working safely on marine craft.

MEM20413 - Certificate II in Engineering Pathways

This qualification is only for delivery in learning institutions.  It is intended for people interested in exposure to an engineering or related working environment with a view to entering into employment in that area. 

MEM30105 - Certificate III in Engineering - Production Systems

This qualification is typically associated with positions such as senior operators, senior warehouse personnel and tool setters machine setters etc. It is not suitable for training in most enterprises.
Core training covers performing engineering measurement and computations, planning activities, applying quality systems and procedures, utilising computing technology and assisting in the delivery of on-the-job training.

MEM30205 - Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade

This qualification provides trade level training in a wide range of mechanical areas such as maintenance, toolmaking, watchmaking, machining, instrumentation and refrigeration and air conditioning.  Core training covers performing engineering measurement and computations, planning activities, applying quality systems and procedures, utilising computing technology and assisting in the delivery of on-the-job training.

MEM30305 - Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade

This qualification provides trade level training in a wide range of fabrication areas such as casting and moulding, light or heavy fabrication, patternmaking, surface finishing and welding. Core training covers performing engineering measurement and computations, planning activities, applying quality systems and procedures, utilising computing technology and assisting in the delivery of on-the-job training.

MEM30405 - Certificate III in Engineering - Electrical/Electronic Trade

This is the trade qualification for the electronic/electrical sector of the industry. There are sufficient specialist competencies to tailor the training to particular needs of the job and the enterprise such as marine electronics, air-conditioning, instrumentation, toolmaking. Core training covers performing engineering measurements and computations, planning activities, applying quality systems and procedures, utilising computing technology and assisting in the delivery of on-the-job training.

MEM30505 - Certificate III in Engineering - Technical

This qualification provides training in engineering drafting and the planning, development and implementation of production manufacture processes. It is recommended that trainees complete Year 12 or equivalent as a prerequisite. There are specialist electives available that enable the trainee to use these drafting competencies in a customer sales/service environment or enable them to apply the designs in a manufacturing production situation.

MEM30605 - Certificate III in Jewellery Manufacture

This is the trade qualification for jewellery and watchmaking. It covers trades previously known as jewellery manufacture and repair, watch and clock repairer, gem setter and engraver.

MEM30705 - Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction

This is the trade qualification for wooden and fibreglass boat construction and boat repair.

MEM30805 - Certificate III in Locksmithing

This qualification provides trade level training in locksmithing. Training covers assessing risks, designing systems such as safes, strongrooms, master key systems, alarms, door and window locks, installation, replacement and maintenance of locking systems, alarms and access control systems and modification of locks. May lead to specialisations in lock manipulation, safe work, key manufacture and identification, door closure work and master key systems.

MEM30905 - Certificate III in Boating Services

This qualification includes a range of skills including boat building, construction, fitting out, commissioning and repair of all types of vessels.

MEM31010 - Certificate III in Watch and Clock Service and Repair

Appropriate for apprentices in trades related to watch and clock servicing and repair.

MEM31112 - Certificate III in Engineering - Composites Trade

Appropriate for those working with composites within the metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries.

MEM31215 - Certificate III in Engineering - Industrial Electrician

This qualification provides competencies in the ability to select, set up and install, test, fault-find, repair and maintain electrical systems and equipment in buildings and industrial environments, including oil/gas installations, mine sites, processing plants and the like. It is designed to support an application in each state and territory for a license to practise as an electrician.

MEM40105 - Certificate IV In Engineering

This is the qualification that was formerly known as the 'post trade' or higher engineering' trade qualification.

MEM40205 - Certificate IV In Boating Services

Appropriate training for those assisting in the operation of a boating business. This may involve boat maintenance and operation as well as business management.

MEM40311 - Certificate IV in Jewellery Manufacture

Training may cover gem setting, engraving or jewellery manufacturing skills.

MEM40412 - Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for a detail draftsperson producing specialist engineering drawings within an engineering or manufacturing work environment.

MEM50105 - Diploma of Engineering

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for employment as an Advanced Engineering Tradesperson - Level II within the metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries. The qualification has been developed to meet the needs of apprentices in an Engineering Trade who choose to study at a higher level during their apprenticeship in the above trade or for people who are existing engineering tradespersons. Approved descriptors for use with this qualification: Refrigeration and Air-conditioning; Casting and Moulding; CNC programming; Fluid Power; Heavy Fabrication; Instrumentation; Maintenance; Marine Electronics; Mechatronics; Patternmaking; Robotics; Toolmaking; Welding.

MEM50212 - Diploma of Engineering - Technical

Approved descriptors for use with this qualification are: Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Aeronautical and Avionic.

MEM50311 - Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to apply design processes and technical production skills to the design and manufacture of custom-made jewellery and objects.

MEM60112 - Advanced Diploma of Engineering

These descriptors are approved for use with this qualification are: Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Aeronautical and Avionics.
