The Local Government Training Package LGA04 (release 3) includes 23 qualifications and three skill sets.

Qualifications Summary

LGA20104 - Certificate II in Local Government

This qualification is suitable for people wishing to begin their career in general administrative work in a local government organisation.

LGA20204 - Certificate II in Local Government (Operational Works)

This qualification is suitable for trainees wishing begin their career as a Road Services Unit Person in a local government organisation.

LGA30104 - Certificate III in Local Government

This qualification is suitable for those wishing to undertake general administrative work in a local government organisation.

LGA30208 - Certificate III in Local Government (Health and Environment)

This qualification is suitable for trainees working in local government who may undertake water sampling, waste collection, weed control and other health and environment tasks.

LGA30304 - Certificate III in Local Government (Operational Works)

This qualification is suitable for people wishing to undertake evaluation of work maintenance needs and priorities for the local government.

LGA30404 - Certificate III in Local Government (Regulatory Services)

This qualification is suitable for people wishing to undertake general compliance and regulatory services for local government.

LGA40104 - Certificate IV in Local Government

This qualification is suitable where multiskilling within the local government is required.

LGA40204 - Certificate IV in Local Government (Administration)

This qualification is suitable for people wishing to undertake a managerial administration role within local government.

LGA40308 - Certificate IV in Local Government (Health and Environment)

This qualification is appropriate for a team leader of an environmental services unit within local government. Work may cover operating a waste transfer station, co-ordinating health services delivery, conducting routine inspections of food premises, accommodation and swimming pools.

LGA40404 - Certificate IV in Local Government (Operational Works)

This qualification is appropriate for a team leader of an outdoor operations unit within local government.

LGA40504 - Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services)

This qualification is suitable for people wishing to undertake compliance and regulatory services for local government.

LGA40604 - Certificate IV in Local Government (Land Management)

This qualification is suitable for people wishing to assist with land management planning (including application of ecologically sustainable development principles), assessment of applications for land use, assessment of native title determination applications and so on.

LGA40708 - Certificate IV in Local Government (Planning)

This qualification is suitable for those who assist the planner within council to undertake assessments of domestic scale building applications and investigate alleged breaches of legislation and prepare documentation.

LGA50104 - Diploma of Local Government Administration

LGA50208 - Diploma of Local Government (Health and Environment)

This qualification is appropriate for those who perform tasks in Health and Environment involving a high level of autonomy and requiring the application of significant judgement in planning and determining the selection of resources/roles/techniques for themselves and others.

LGA50404 - Diploma of Local Government (Operational Works)

This qualification is appropriate for those who perform tasks in Operational Works involving a high level of autonomy and requiring the application of significant judgement in planning and determining the selection of resources/roles/techniques for themselves and others.

This qualification is appropriate for those who apply integrated technical and theoretical concepts to a broad range of contexts to undertake advanced skilled or paraprofessional work. This may cover both general work areas or specialist streams such as Elected Members, Rates, Management, Procurement or Land Management.
